Is it done yet?

Pretty sure my husband said “is it done yet” 10x in the past few years as I added, tweaked and worked to make our living room complete! What I learned during the process…live in your house before you make it your home.  Don’t rush it.  Buy pieces (furniture and accessories) that will make it feel like a home.

The mistake I made with our living room was rushing to buy a couch before the living room was finished during the build process.  It’s not that the couch doesn’t work or that I don’t like the color/ fabric but we didn’t have a chance to “live” in the space to figure out the best way to lay out the room.  So, I have worked around the couch and made it all work together to be part of our home.  I am sitting on that very couch tonight writing this post.  Looking around the room tonight it makes me happy (design happy).  It’s a room we spend most of our time in as a family so I made sure it is comfortable but also brought in the various elements of color and design that I love.

As I work through my posts I will share my rooms that are complete and some that are still a work-in-progress (yes, even 3-years after moving in).  People say that there is always something to do with a house once you are a home owner.  Is it bad that I love the never-ending projects?  I do.  Home projects make me happy and keep me up a night brainstorming new ideas.

I can’t wait to share all of my ideas and projects with you on btb Style and Design and I hope to inspire all of the little or big projects you are taking on.

Sunday project

Our weekends are pretty much filled with house stuff these days. It’s exciting as it means the countdown is on and hopefully our prep will make our move(s) that much easier.
For this weekend we picked up a few paint samples to get a better idea of colors. While we couldn’t get our top choices (they were sold out) seeing colors close to what we are looking for really help you understand how light/ dark you want to go.
Here was my project for tonight- a little arts and crafts! Now that we have a few paint options on the board we can look at these against our color wheel to narrow in and make decisions. More details to come this week….

And it begins…picking out paint colors

We have a few weeks before we have to submit our final paint colors. Benjamin Moore’s website has been my best friend this weekend. Working
to narrow this color wheel done and add in a few other options…while trying to keep the general color palette of the house cohesive. More work to be done- but getting there.

What’s trending in the design world

Over the past few months I have started following more and more bloggers on instagram and twitter.  I love looking at my daily instagram feed and getting ideas and inspiration from other bloggers/ designers out there.  While most of the bloggers I follow are focused on fashion they dabble in home as well.  Yesterday there were lots of updates around the new Aerin Lauder line Lenox.  Aerin Lauder launched a lifestyle brand AERIN and over the past few months has really increased her presence through different changes (social media, stores, and her website).  She creates amazing home product in addition to women’s accessories and beauty (you may remember my post this summer when I visited her store in Southampton).  As part of this lifestyle brand she started a collaboration with Lenox a few years ago.  Tonight, was the soft launch of their new collection and I can’t resist showing you some of the pictures I saw from my instagram feed (this is the lazy way to post the images as I didn’t even crop out some of the unnecessary “noise” from my phone)-

Inspired and curious to learn more about the brand and where you can purchase their product (outside of their own website) I went on an online hunt.  I found that they have a great selection of AERIN product on Neiman Marcus.  It is hard to share just one of my favorite items but I added some snapshots of my top picks below.  If you can’t see where or what I love about AERIN product, it is easy- she loves blue and ikat.  Plus you have to love her motto of “effortless style”- great inspiration to have when designing any home.

Shopping- Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams

This past weekend Jarret and I stopped in at the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams stores in the Back Bay.  We have run Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams a few times on Rue and I have always loved their product.  After visiting their store this weekend I was even more impressed with their selection and absolutely loved their new Fall product.

In walking around their store and looking at their fabrics I have a feeling we will be visiting the store again when we are ready for our furniture purchases.  Below are some of my favorite displays from the store- I love all of their couches!!   With all of their the grey and blue color schemes everything would work perfectly back to our (soon to be) house.

This is my dream couch- deep velvet blue (would prefer a sectional but this could work!)
